Description

This one-of-a-kind, turn-of-the-century Foursquare home in Old Town Purcellville has been extensively renovated with care taken to preserve its original character but with features that rival new luxury homes. As you approach the home, note the professionally landscaped gardens with flowering trees and perennials bordered by a quaint white picket fence! Walk up the stone path to the wide/covered, wrap-around front porch with its original columns and balustrades, 2-wide staircases, ceiling fans, and recessed lights. As you enter the foyer of the home you will see the care taken to preserve this home's charm to include the woodwork and stained glass window on the stairway landing. As you proceed through the home you will see no detail or expense was spared in its total renovation. Each room has been updated to include a designer paint palette, custom wood molding/accents, refinished hardwood floors, and lighting. From the foyer, enter the light-filled family room, its focal point is a wood-burning fireplace (with blue serpentine granite surround) and original mantle which has been redesigned to accommodate a large flat screen TV, custom shelves and cabinets. As you proceed into the dining room and kitchen, note the original wood pocket doors. The dining room/kitchen areas provide a large open space for gathering, entertaining and meal preparation. The dining room space has an elegant chandelier, coffered ceiling, and large double window with views to the side yard. The kitchen has as its focus the large 50x30 inch island with high-end granite and a built-in 5-burner Miele smooth-cooktop with a stainless hooded vent. You will have no storage issues with the 42 inch Cherry cabinets! Note also the easy to maintain Silestone counters and the stacked slate backsplash. High-end GE stainless appliances include a large double oven, French door refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave. Next to the dining room/kitchen is a large living room with built-in shelves and a separate exit outside to the wrapped porch. Towards the rear of the first floor (off the living room) is the perfect home office. Alternately, it could be used as a playroom, or extra bedroom. Off the office is a separate full bathroom and beyond that the laundry/mud room. Here you will find upgraded stacked washer/dryer, a bonus side-by-side stainless refrigerator, sink, oak cabinets topped with granite. Also for convenience the powder room is located on main level (note the original stone walls and wood beams). From the foyer proceed up the grand staircase to the second level to find four large bedrooms, each with refinished hardwood floors, wood trim/molding, upgraded ceiling fans/lights, and customized closets to optimize storage. To the rear of the home is the spacious master suite which overlooks the rear yard. Adjoining the master bedroom are 2-closets with custom built-ins and a luxurious spa-like master bath. The master bath includes a large shower with steam/jets and frameless door, a jetted jacuzzi, maple cabinets, porcelain tile floors, double vanity, and updated Kohler fixtures. White marble graces the tub enclosure, shower and counter tops. You will also note a 'secret door' in the bathroom that leads up stairs to the carpeted attic. This space would serve as a great playroom for the kids (or extra storage)! Proceed downstairs to the lower level where you will find a recreation room accented with original stone wall, cabling and mounts for a large TV and built-in speakers. This level also provides a 5th bedroom which can serve as an in-law or au-pair suite. You will also find an updated full bathroom with walk-in shower. This level has a separate walk-up to the fenced rear yard. The landscaping has been designed with the same focus on detail as the interior. Entertain outside around the fire-pit on your 20' x 30' flagstone patio or play ball on the large sports court. Convenient off street parking (4-car pad) is provided to the rear of the home

Purcellville

Purcellville is located about an hour west of Washington, D.C. It was settled by Quakers in the late 18th century. Like Middleburg and other communities in Loudoun County, Purcellville was a halfway point for those traveling between D.C. and Winchester.

Purcellville experienced a boom in trade in the late 1800's with the arrival of the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad. By the 20th century, the valley was one of the biggest dairy farming and orchard grass producers in the nation.

Quality of Life:

Sometimes, a local says it best:

“As a ten year resident of Purcellville, there isn't a day that goes by where I don't feel lucky to live here. Purcellville is one big neighborhood where time is made to get one's life rooted and nurtured.  Folks want to know you.

Mail order chicks can be found chirping in the back room at the post office. Neighbors venture over in the spring to share the latest gardening tips and where to find the best prices for perennials. Reunions are held in conjunction with the annual Heritage Day that the Purcellville Preservation Association holds every May as a town-wide old-fashioned country fair at the historic Fireman's Field.

Roots run deep in Purcellville and so many care a great deal for the quality of life, making a point to share their lives and help make everyone's better by just being connected.”

- Meredith Thomas, President, Purcellville Preservation Association
